Joe Carmouche was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He began playing the guitar at the age of 10 after discovering a guitar in a closet at his grandmother's house. He soon began playing popular songs on the radio. Joe attended Kashmere High School where he was a member of the internationally acclaimed Kashmere Stage Band. Joe landed his first professional gig at the age of 16 with Bubbha Thomas & The Lightmen where he backed such jazz legends as Kirk Whalum, Arnett Cobb, and David "Fathead" Newman.
Joe has backed jazz greats such as Joe Sample, Ronnie Laws, Tom Browne, Najee, Michael Henderson, and Mikki Howard.
His band has opened for Michael Franks, Boney James, Jeff Lorber, Norman Brown, and Jonathan Butler.
Joe has released four CDs: After Hours, A Touch Of Jazz, Art of The Groove, and All My Best, and has a cameo appearance in the movie ThunderSoul.
Jalen Baker, born in Washington DC and raised in Houston, TX, is a vibraphonist and composer whose early training involved both classical and jazz. Jalen received his BA in Jazz Studies from Columbia College Chicago. He distinguished himself as a jazz vibraphonist and received several accolades including outstanding soloist at both the Notre Dame and Elmhurst Jazz Festivals.
Jalen was accepted as a Graduate Assistant in the Jazz Performance program at Florida State University and in 2019 received his MM in Jazz Studies. During his tenure at Florida State he was chosen as a Ravinia Jazz Fellow in 2018. He has been a performer with the Leon Anderson Quartet, The Ulysses Owens Trio and Quartet, Jeremy Pelt Quintet, Michael Mwenso, Paul Cornish Group as well as leading his own band Tano in venues in and around Georgia and Northern Florida. In 2021 Jalen released his Debut Album "This Is Me, This Is Us" which was chosen as the #4 best Jazz Album of 2021.
The Leader of Collectors Item and owner of Power House Studios is a Music Educator, Voting member of The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (The Grammies), The Houston Professional Musicians Union, BMI Music Writer & Publisher and is currently working on a Solo CD project to be finished soon.
Kyle Turner is a creative and innovative artist that has warmed the hearts of many with the sultry sounds birthed from his instrument, the saxophone. A native of Houston, Texas, Kyle began his musical journey at a young age and during his middle school and high school years, Kyle developed the tools necessary to pursue his career in music. With memtors like Arnette Cobb, Conrad Johnson and Kirk Whalum, Kyle's music took on a more serious note and he quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young talents to come out of his city!
During Kyle's college years at Jackson State University and Texas Southern University he won numerous awards. Those precious years gave him the opportunity to further develop his God given talents and abilities for music, especially in the area of jazz. The transition from college to the professional arena was a challenging but important phase in Kyle's career. He learned to intensify his performance and allow his music to move through his soul, taking his audiences on a spiritual journey through music.
By the 1990's Kyle was performing on a regular basis and drawing large enthusiastic audiences regionally and nationally. People worldwide were tuned in to the "rising saxist with the sexy sound" as described by one music critic. Kyle's musical range is vast and he describes himself as a musician that loves playing all types of music. Kyle's music career has afforded him to share the stage with such artists as: Luther Vandross, Regina Belle, Joe Sample, Booby Lyle, Al Jarreau, Will Downing, Ronnie Laws, Marrion Meadows, Bob Baldwin, Terence Blanchard, Eddie Levert and Kirk Whalum just to name a few. Since his first solo release, "It's Time" in 1992 Kyle has continued recording albums and he has been featured on recordings of many other artist.
In addition, Kyle is extremely active in promoting jazz and creating opportunities for musicians in Houston and beyond. Kyle is extremely busy taking young musicians in Houston and beyond. Kyle is extremely busy taking young musicians under his wing to support, encourage, and develop their talents. He is extremely active as a music educator and lecturer in school systems in the Greater Houston Area. He also has his own radio show The Jazz Club" which airs four days a week on KTSU 90.9 FM. As a result of his success in the areas of music performance and music education, Kyle was honored in the 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2016 editions of Who' Who in Black Houston.
Constantly searching for new avenues to expand his existing fan base, Kyle and his childhood friend formed Bayou City Music Group. In 2011 Kyle released his fifth solo CD "Wrapped Tight" on their Bayou City Music label. Known as an artist that is constantly evolving and pushing his creative envelope to new heights that one can not begin to imagine unless you witness up close, Kyle has recently released his sixth solo CD "Kyle Tuner Live in January of 2019! This recording captures the energy and passion of Kyle's live performances and gives the listener a taste of what it's like to be a part os Kyle Turner performance, an experience music lovers must see and hear for themselves.
A Houston area native, Pat Williams has been playing drums for over 30 years. From the first time he picked up a pair of sticks, he has been constantly improving his abilities, and establishing himself as a competent and professional musician. As the product of famed Trumpeter, the late Pat Williams, Sr. and former Jazz and R&B vocalist, Rita Benson, at an early age, he developed a love for listening to and playing all genres of music, which has made him one of Houston’s most versatile and sought-after drummers. He can step into any musical situation and provide exactly what’s expected of a professional drummer.
Pat has performed with a variety of different bands/artists across various music genres, including Joe Sample, Bob James, Warren Hill, Avery Sunshine, Eric Darius, Alex Bugnon, Mike Phillips, Tony Terry, Bobby Lyle, Regina Belle, Gerald Albright, Sy Smith, Everette Harp, Althea Rene, Kurt Carr, and numerous cover bands in the Houston area.
Pat’s experience in the music industry has been much more than sitting behind a drum kit. From starting his own band, The Pat Williams Group, in 2013; to being the Music Director for national and international recording artists; to curating live music events; and most recently, releasing his debut solo EP in 2021. Pat is still one of Houston’s few percussionists who is both comfortable and confident in not only working alongside other professional musicians, both live and in the studio, but also working as a mentor, teacher, and consultant to many up-and-coming young musicians.
Michael C. Lewis
Trumpeter Michael C. Lewis hails from Houston Texas. Not only is Michael an outstanding trumpeter, but a talented composer, vocalist, and actor as well. Michael is a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston Mass and has a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies from New York University.
As a performer and admirer of both jazz and classic soul music, Michael has performed and toured with such master artists as Hank Crawford, Pharoah Sanders, Norman Connors, Issac Hayes, Jimmy Heath, Patti Labelle, Wilson Pickett, Alex Bugnon, Kirk Whalum, Walter Beasley, and Frank Lacy to name a few.
Michael has also toured Europe, Japan, Asia, Australia, Russia, and Abu Dhabi. Michael has released two projects Reflection (2010) and Intimate Journey (2018) on his Cybervision Entertainment label. The recordings received rave reviews and features Michael’s soulful trumpet, flugelhorn, and vocals over a collection of cool, contemporary and smooth grooves that run the spectrum of jazz, soul, funk, and a hint of hip-hop. His influences include: Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan, Marvin Gaye, John Coltrane, Ronnie Laws, Michael Henderson, The Crusaders and Herbie Hancock.
Vocalist Julie Johnson is a native of Chicago, Illinois, where she studied voice at the Chicago Conservatory of Music and also was vocalist in the All-City Chorus. Julie’s earlier career was concentrated in rhythm, blues, and jazz of which she was a member of various groups such as Brandi and Heet, and was also featured vocalist with Bill McFarland & The Chicago Horns. She has captured audiences with her charm, grace and jazz style at nightclubs such as The Bulls, Elliott’s Nest, and has performed to a packed house at Nathan Manilow Theater. Julie’s career has taken her to Houston, Texas, where she has performed at venues such as Ovations, Red Cat Jazz Café, Sambucas Jazz Club, Sullivan’s Steak House, Tommy’s Seafood & Steak House, and Tony’s, which is Houston’s premier 5-Star restaurant. She has performed at numerous country clubs, River Oaks Country Club and Sweetwater Country Club, and numerous hotels for private functions such as St. Regis Hotel, Hilton Americas Hotel, Four Seasons, the Magnolia Hotel, Intercontinental Hotel, and Doubletree Hotel, just to name a few.
Julie has provided electrifying and first-class entertainment for major corporate events such as Air Liquid Corporation, Exxon, Audi-Volkswagen, Neiman Marcus. Outside of Texas, Julie has performed at Humphrey’s By The Bay in San Diego, California, and at the Burbank Equestrian Center in Burbank, California. She has performed numerous times at the Air Force and Army Bases in Okinawa, Japan. She has performed in Mexico City, Mexico for a private corporation. In March 2005, Julie performed in Paris, France at Ritz Carlton’s Hemingway Room, at George V Hotel, as well as at Le Bilboquet Jazz Club in Saint Germain. Julie has self-produced and titled CD, which includes standards and originals. Her music is regularly broadcast on Houston’s Jazz Station 90.9 FM - KTSU.
Julie Johnson is vivacious, energetic, and a totally awesome entertainer. She has an extremely wide vocal range and exhibits richness in tone and exciting vocal phrasing. She displays elegance, grace and sophistication in all of her performances, captivating all of her audiences.
Vocalist Jonell White was born and raised in the West Texas oilfield town of Odessa.
She began singing in the church Jr choir at the age of 10.
Aside from gospel she fell in love with Rhythm and Blues and began to imitate the soulful sounds of Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight.
Jonell has performed for many organizations around Houston and the surrounding areas such as Delta Sigma Theta, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Kappa Alpha, National Oraganization of Black Law Enforcement, National Black Lawyers Association, The National Black Caucus, Houston Community College, Inspired for Excellence Charter School, Sugarland Town Square, The Woodlands Town Center, and The Taste of New Orleans Festival as well as many more.
Jonell is the lead Female vocalist for Legendary Guitarist Joe Carmouche's Band.
Andre’ James is a native of Beaumont, Texas and one of Houston’s most diverse & premier male vocalists.
He credits his mother, Esther Seastrunk-McClain for being instrumental in embracing his love of music by exposing him, at an early age, to her eclectic collection of music. While attending Texas Southern University, he became a highly sought after session singer & background vocalist, by which afforded him opportunities to tour in Japan, South Africa, & many countries.
Andre’ has performed, sung background, toured and/or shared the stage with Grammy & award winning artists such as Regina Belle, Kirk Whalum, Yolanda Adams, Nancy Wilson, Al Jarreau, Chante Moore, Mikki Howard, Kyle Turner, Syleena Johnson, Joe Carmouche, Howard Hewett, Tony Terry, Marc Anthony, Kyle Turner, Ruben Studdard, Boney James, Reba McIntire, Lyle Lovett, Vesta Williams, Ollie Woodson, Chris Walker and the list goes on.
Andre also had the honor as one of the featured artists to perform at the legendary jazz songstress Nancy Wilson’s 80th birthday in Hollywood, California, in addition, also performed for the One World Appeal Harvey fundraiser for the 5 former presidents: Barak Obama, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and the two George W. Bushs. Andre has also served as the Music coordinator, host, & headliner at the Houston’s Red Cat Jazz Cafe popular Soul Sundays for 10 years, music coordinator, host M.C. at the legendary Arena Theatre. Samuel dinkins, III
Founder and President of the Dinky Drum Company, LLC (DDC) located in Houston, Texas - DDC is a music education, performance and entertainment company, circ. 1989, whose mission is, "To provide knowledge and experiences which promote the enjoyment of music for a lifetime." DDC School of Music is where children and adults learn about music through private and group instruction, performances, clinics, workshops & recitals. As an educator, his work includes: Percussion Specialist for the Central District of the Houston ISD (HISD); Music teacher at Parker Elementary School (the 2002 National GRAMMY Signature Elementary School) - an HISD Music Magnet School; and Percussion Instructor at many music camps around the United States. His award-winning educational programs for inner-city youth have received funding from the Cultural Arts Council of Houston/Harris County; the Texas Commission for the Arts the Evin Thayer Scholarship Fund (2002 inaugural recipient) and numerous foundations. Mr. Dinkins is one of the Educational Artists for "DaCamera of Houston" (1998-present) performing in its "Beyond the Concert Hall" community outreach programs, and "the DaCamera in the schools-Rhythm Residency program" to name a few. With DDC Educational Shows, he is developing, presenting, and performing at Schools, Libraries, Churches and Community Centers throughout Texas. He has been featured on Heartbeat of America's National Television Show, "Keeping America Strong" hosted by William Shatner and other television personalities. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, he is an accomplished performer and producer who has worked with the NYC Metropolitan Orchestra, Howard University Bands and Ensembles, Houston Symphony, Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra, the Gospel Music Worship of America, Gene "the Duke of Earl" Chandler, Rev. James Cleveland, "the Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin, Lionel Hampton, Bobbi Humphrey, Hubert Laws, Stephanie Mills, Melba Moore, Joe Sample, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Music ministries & churches-among them the St. James Episcopal Jazz Ensembles and numerous Gospel, Jazz, Latin and Rhythm & Blues artists taking him around the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and China. He is a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 65-699; Texas Music Educators Inc., NAMM, NARAS, and several other professional organizations. For close to four decades, Ron Cole has been a musical powerhouse in Houston as both a performer and an educator. Born in Chicago, and raised in Memphis, Ron moved to Houston to attend Texas Southern University (TSU).
At TSU he was a member of “The Ocean of Soul Marching Band,” “The TSU Concert Choir” and “The TSU Jazz Ensemble.” He graduated with a BA in Music Education (All Levels, Vocal as well as Instrumental.)
Ron went on to serve the Houston Independent School District (HISD) for 31 years as General Music Instructor, Choral Director and Band Director. He taught at Foster Elementary, Jesse Jones High School, Dowling Middle School, and MacGregor Elementary where he challenged students to set their goals high and achieve them.
Ron retired from HISD in 2011. He loved being an educator so much that he returned to HISD in 2012 where he currently serves as HISD Band Specialist, Piano Instructor and Consultant at MacGregor Elementary and Roberts Elementary.
Ron is honored to have touched the lives of so many students. He believes that all students can excel when they have a strong family support system and educators who inspire them to reach their full potential.
On the performing side, Ron is an outstanding musical director, keyboardist and vocalist. In addition to his own bands, he has performed with such famed celebrities as Al Green, Prince, The Bar-Kays, Brothers Johnson, Chic, and The Calvin Owens Blues Orchestra. Over the past decade, Ron has performed, and once served as Musical Director, with The Motown BACE Orchestra at the annual Miller Outdoor Theatre Motown Extravaganza. In the summer of 2017 Ron worked as a vocal coach for the Talented 10th Theatrical Program under the direction of playwright and founder Broderick Jones. Recently, he performed at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Boule that was held in Houston. Ron has performed at numerous churches, restaurants, hotels and clubs in the greater Houston and surrounding areas.
Ron is a member of the prestigious Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity. He is an active member of the American Federation of Musicians.
Ron is married to Jocelyn and they are blessed with one daughter, Crystal.
